Let's exchange makeup tips and tricks - SECOND UPDATE!

If you have great makeup tips or tricks - share them here. :)

I'll start: I have just bought the lipstick Dita von Teese wears, Russian Red from Mac and I also bought Prep+Prime from Mac. It really works wonders as a primer under all your lipsticks - I highly recommend it.

UPDATED ...
Today, I bought the Russian Red gloss, since I also thought the Russian Red lipstick feels very dry. I was told to put on primer, liner and lipstick as usual and then add a little gloss at the middle of my mouth. Sounds like a great tip. The saleswoman were a huge fan of Dita, so I told her about Dita's lovely book, which she would write on her Christmas wish list. :)

Another issue: Mascara!
What did the women use in the forties and fifties? Did they only have cake mascara back then and how did they get those gorgeous lashes? I know the Hollywood stars often used false lashes but not always. I have seen a lot of vintage cosmetic ads but they are always about lipstick, powder or pancake makeup. So if you know something about vintage mascara - pls share. :)

My favourite mascara for daily wear is Max Factor's "2000 Calories", inexpensive and gives me great lashes in one stroke. I have tried many other mascaras but I always return to this one. For party use L'Oreal's "Double Extensive" is gorgeous. It has a white primer in one end and a normal black one in the other end. Be careful applying it as it easily clutters.

SECOND UPDATE:
I want to share a great product - if you want healthy and perfect looking lightly powdered skin, like the vintage movie stars had, I highly recommend this product:

Maybelline Mineral foundation.

You can buy it in a lot of different shades and also in a Translucent, I even found one pale enough for my skin. It is not expensive and there even comes a little brush with it, but I recommend you to use a pro Kabuki brush. The little one is great for travelling or in your purse, but not for daily use.

A good tip is to line the bottom of your eye with a cream/white liner if you want your eyes to look larger. And then if you want them to looks smaller, use black liner.
Always apply moisterizer BEFORE you put your foundation on your face.
Don't use eye shadow that is the same color of your eyes. It will make your eyes look much smaller.

That's really cool bout the lipstick! I LOVE the red lips look!!!

That's really good advice, Grobanite19, thank you. :)
Your advice about not using eye shadow in the same colour as your eyes reminds me about another trick about eye shadows. Use the opposite colour than your eyes to accentuate your eye colour.
If I use pink or purple eyeshadow (light shades of course), my green eyes looks almost cat green.
Have a great weekend, dear. :)

I have eyes that are between green and brown, with a little bit of gold flakes in them. I used light pink a lot, but what other colors do you think would b good 2 use? Cream seems to go well w/ my eyes too.

Does anyone know if Coty still manufactures lipstick? Their mattes were like superglue.

-> Dagney, no I haven't seen it in Denmark. Let's try google it. :)

-> Grobanite19 - I think the same colours as I use will work great for you too. Pale shades of pink, purple, plum, and golden brown. When I use these pale shades I always use a liquid eyeliner, the same way as Marilyn did.

I googled Coty, but it looks like they have gone back to their roots and are manufacturing perfume..;< ..ah, well. I will try Dita's red. I have extremely fair skin with olive tones, so some reds look really flat and orange on me.

I use that Mac Russian Red and though it stays on forever it dries my lips a bit. And the best powder (foundation) I've come across is yet another Mac brand- Studiofix. I use it as powder and it really does cover and give a flawless look.
And I can't live without liquid liner. Love Maybelline Ultraliner, it's cheap and stays on FOREVER!

-> Dagney - Thanks for letting us know.

-> Cat - Perhaps it helps if you use the Prep+Prime stick before. It is a matte and therefore "dry" lipstick. I'm sure you can find a red tone that suits you, Mac has a huge collection to choose from.
I have to try that liquid liner. :)

I've been wearing red lipstick for ..wow 15 years now and the Russian Red is probably one of the best red shades I've found. It has a more bluish undertone which is usually what you want. So I guess a lil drying isn't that bad!

But that Prep+Prime stick sounds very interesting! ;)

-> Cat - Yes, the Prep+Prime stick is really great. I have to mention it is the stick I recommend, because I've just found out that there is a Prep+Prime "before foundation" product and I don't know this. I've tried the primer stick under several of my dark lipsticks and it really works wonders. I have also been wearing lipstics for 30 years now I suppose. I was 14 when I bought my first - I've always been out of fashion, but I wear what I want to. :)

Another great lipstick that stays well for me is L'Oreal Color Riche. Unfortunately the color (buttoned-up red) I wear was with their special vintage collection. :( But it's a great blue red that looks great with my skin tone!

For blue/green eyes, golds work great to being out the blue and grey is nice when wanting your greens to pop.

Cat -I love my MAC studiofix! It also helps if I put some on before I use powder eye shadow, it keeps creaseing to a minium.

Cheers!
