Ed,

It's basically all trial and error. I have no idea what colors that I will come up with. Although, there are certain combination's I try to remember. However, they don't always look the same on every photo. My software is about 5 years old, so it is probably all outdated from what they have now.

Brilliant. Do you use a system which identifies what colour a grey should translate to in colour or do you use your intuition?

Ed,

No, I colorize all of these on my own. Once in a great awhile I might post something I found that was done by someone else. I always acknowledge that to be the case when ever I do, and it is not my work. It's almost always my own colorization's. The ANNIE LAURIE still I just worked on last night. It is brand new.
